Certificate on Good supervision

The MIN Faculty at Universität Hamburg is supporting both doctoral researchers and their supervisors on their academic journey, which has become increasingly demanding. Here you find offers for potential supervisors up to experiences senior supervisors.
The Certified Supervisor Training at the MIN Faculty provides supervisors and co-supervisors of doctoral researchers with strategies for effective supervision and for tackling various challenges that may arise. The training consists of eight modules, each of which can be attended individually. To obtain the "Certified Supervisor" certificate, at least five out of eight modules, including module 8, have to be completed.
Target Audience: Supervisors and Co-Supervisors (primarily within the MIN faculty)
Format: eight individual modules (three hours each)
Module 1: About regulation and support for writing a thesis at the MIN faculty

What you gain from participating:
- Practical skills for effective one-on-one supervision
- Preventing conflicts by aligning expectations and clarifying roles
- Tools for structuring meetings, providing constructive feedback, and handling challenges
- Approaches to foster motivation, self-organization, and a productive research environment
- Knowledge of good scientific practice and ethical supervision
Participants will receive a certificate “Certified Supervisor” upon completion of at least five modules, including module 8. A certificate of attendance is issued for each individual module.

We are planning to offer the workshop series in regular intervals. If you are unable to join this time, we’ll reserve a spot for you in one of the future installments.

The final installment of the Peer Supervision Workshop (Part 2) takes place on June 09/10 + September 11, 2026 (consult Detailed Schedule for further information). If you have already successfully registered for this workshop, your registration still upholds. Next Level: workshop for experienced supervisors 2027
Are you a busy research supervisor looking for strategies on how to make your supervision even more efficient and fruitful? And would you like to get inspiration from other experienced supervisors? Then you will find this advanced workshop very relevant. The setting is a ½ day afternoon workshop. The teaching form is highly interactive and facilitated by two internationally leading educational developers within the field of PhD supervision. This is a chance to take your supervision to the next level!
Target Audience: Experienced supervisors who have supervised at least five PhD candidates as the main supervisor. Alternatively, you may have co-supervised many PhD candidates or gained other relevant experience.
