MINGZ Doctoral Representatives

Ideas for events? Suggestions for improvement? Problems with the doctorate?

From October 2023, Ana Andrade and Korbinian Niedermüller serve as doctoral representatives in the board of MIN Graduate Center. They are involved in all activities of the board of MINGZ, such as the admission of new doctoral programs into MINGZ and the development of the MINGZ support program.

Apart from that, we want to encourage you to reach out to them via e-mail at doctoral-representatives.min"AT"uni-hamburg.de with feedback and suggestions of any kind, as well as any concerns related to your doctoral studies and research. Ana and Korbinian will check the inbox regularly and, together with the staff of MINGZ, will do their best to support you and improve the conditions for doctoral studies at MIN Faculty.

Ana Andrade

Hi everyone! I arrived in Hamburg in April 2023 to start my PhD at the Fakultät für Mathematik, Informatik und Naturwissenschaften. My research topic is Higgs physics with the CMS experiment (CERN). On a personal side: I am Portuguese, I completed my BSc in London and my MSc in Aachen.

Academia can be tricky to naviagte, both finantially, emotionally and scientifically, so I hope that I can make your journey a little bit easier by advocating for your problems within MINGZ. Korbinian Niedermüller

Hello everyone, my name is Korbinian. I am currently in my second PhD year, working in the group for molecular parasitology at the CSSB. My focus of interest lies on the cell biology of the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum. I am using a mixture of revers genetic approaches and super resolution microscopy to dig into the molecular mechanism of Plasmodium egress from red blood cells.

There are two main points, I am very encouraged about their improvement:

1st) Improvement of "overall" working conditions for PhDs
I know it’s easier to complain about the system we are working in than to change things. But I think something must change, not just for us PhDs but also for the attractiveness of research in Germany.

2nd) Improvement of "day to day" working conditions for MIN-PhDs
I love being in the Lab. Most of the time at least. And I want the same for my PhD fellows. I want them to enjoy their working time by helping them in case of bad supervision, conflicts with staff or PIs, or just to find their way around.
