Incoming Buddy
What can Incoming-Buddies expect?
Most of the students who take part in the Buddy Program also spent a year abroad or once came to Hamburg from abroad and know which issues you might encounter during your stay in Hamburg. Here are some examples of how a Welcome Buddy can support you:
- correspondence prior to your arrival via Email
- pick you up from the airport/train station on you arrival
- help you to find your ways around Hamburg (city tour) and the Campus (e.g. where is the regional computer center, the library or the refectory, the Academic Office)
- help you move in a dorm/room in flat, sign a rental contract, open a bank account, take out insurance, buy a phone, etc.
- help you with administrative paper work, e.g. to register your address at the registration office, but also the exchange of culture and international experience
Please keep in mind that a Welcome Buddy should not help you with
- finding accommodation for you
- supporting your visa application process
- providing information on application and matriculation processes or on UHH study programs
PIASTA: Whenever you need information on the topics mentioned above, please get in touch with this Intercultural Living and Learning program.
To-do brochure: here you find all information on your first steps and to-dos in Hamburg.
German language courses for students enrolled at Universität Hamburg: for when you want to improve your German skills.
