23 May 2019, by Maria Latos
On Wednesday, a high-ranking seven-member delegation from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), one of the largest research institutions in the world, visited the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Natural Sciences (MIN). The guests from China were welcomed by the Vice President for Studies and Teaching at Universität Hamburg, Prof. Dr. Susanne Rupp, and the Dean of the MIN Faculty , Prof. Dr. Heinrich Graener. The Chinese delegation then visited the laboratories of Prof. Dr. Roland Wiesendanger from the Department of Physics.
The Chinese guests and the MIN Faculty would like to intensify their cooperation and discussed possibilities for a joint PhD program, joint research projects and bilateral workshops. Within the framework of the CAS-DAAD joint program, young Chinese scientists from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) and CAS research institutes are provided with the opportunity of a research stay in Germany during their PhD studies. Over the past three years, the MIN faculty has attracted a total of 57 doctoral students with Chinese government scholarships.
The delegation was led by Professor Hongjun Gao, Deputy Secretary General of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In the Department of Physics, the guests met several Chinese postdoctoral students in Prof. Dr. Roland Wiesendanger's research group, informed themselves about current research projects and visited various nanoscience laboratories.
