Fulbright Schuman Research Scholarships USA 2026/27

The Fulbright Schuman Program is aimed at European academics who plan to conduct research projects in the United States on topics related to the EU or transatlantic relations. EU citizens can apply for grants lasting up to nine months until 1 December 2025.
An online information session will take place on 16 October 2025 at 4 p.m.

General academic mobility
DAAD-PAJAKO
- PAJAKO - Partnerships with Japan and Korea: (only available in German) Funding to strengthen existing and initiation of new bi- or trilateral scientific partnerships between German and Japanese and/or Korean universities.
Eligible applicants: Faculties, departments, institutes and professors.
DAAD-Funding
- Scholarship database of the German Academic Exchange Service: Find and apply for scholarships.
- Fact Finding Missions: Support for university collaborations with partners from developing countries.
Application deadlines vary. Applications can be submitted up to 6 weeks before the planned trip.
- Congress and lecture trips: DAAD travel allowance, grant towards conference fees, accommodation allowance.
Participation of German doctoral candidates, doctoral students and university lecturers in congresses abroad and lecture tours abroad.
Applications for funding for congress trips abroad must be submitted to the DAAD at least four months before the first day of the congress.
Applications for funding for lecture trips abroad must be received by the DAAD at least one month before the start of the trip.
Erasmus+ Short-Term Lectureships
Through the Erasmus program, university lecturers and young academics can apply for financial support for teaching stays at European partner universities.
- Target group: University teachers and early career researchers from the University of Hamburg.
- Funding installments: Depending on destination country and distance, daily allowances are between €140 and €180, and travel allowances between €211 and €535.
- Funding period: Depending on teaching load, this can range from a minimum of 2 to 10 days (including arrival and departure days).
- The teaching hours: 8 teaching hours per stay and commenced week; in case of additional advanced training, a minimum of 4 hours per week.
- Subjects: The funding condition is a bilateral agreement with the partner university in the Erasmus area.
- Application deadline: ongoing; the application must be submitted at least 1 month before the start of the trip.
Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung
The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation offers a wide range of funding opportunities for research stays abroad and short-term lectureships for scholars at all career stages.
Eligible applicants: postdocs, professors, young professionals
COST - Short Term Scientific Missions
Short Term Scientific Missions under the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) enable research stays of 5 to 90 days (up to 180 days for early-career researchers) at institutions in other COST member countries. They support the exchange of methods and the development of international collaborations. Funding is also available for university faculty, provided their institution is involved in the relevant COST Action.
Travel allowances from the corporate assets of the UHH
(Early career) researchers and students at the University of Hamburg can apply for grants for research and conference trips via Univeristy of Hamburg's foundation and corporate assets.
Applications must be submitted at least 4 weeks before the start of the trip.
