Welcome to the Internet page of the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Natural Sciences.
The Faculty comprises the departments Biology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Informatics, Mathematics and Physics.
Today there are about 9500 students (thereof 900 Ph.D students and 3250 teacher trainees) being taught and coached by 222 professors, 10 junior professors, scientific staff (about 370) and academics, assisted by technical and administrative personnel.
The Faculty currently develops the following interdisciplinary research clusters and is across faculties involved in central main research of the University.

The interdisciplinary Center for Bioinformatics Hamburg was established 2002 based on a
cooperation agreement of the departments Biology, Chemistry, Informatics and Medicine.
