Place to Study and Work

The library is open to both students and other people.

It offers students not only a variety of workplaces for concentrated work and study, but also opportunities to exchange ideas and network with fellow students. Reservation of workplaces

There are sofas, armchairs, and beanbags provided in the library for relaxation breaks and regeneration. 

Bags/backpacks can be taken into the library. Drinks and snacks may also be taken into the library.

Bookeye - Overhead Scanner

Book scanners are available for scientific purposes on the third and fourth floors of the library. The use of the scanner is free of charge.

The scanner can be used - within the limits of copyright - to scan essays from books or journals in grayscale or color. You may save the scans to your own USB stick in PDF or JPG format. (If a USB stick is not available, please ask at the Loan Desk of the Informatics Library. We offer USB sticks on short loan).

Multifunction device - copy, scan and print

A public multifunction device is available on the first floor of the library.

You can use it to make copies, scan documents, or print A4-sized files in either black and white or color. The cost is €0.05 per page for black and white and €0.25 for color. To use the device, you need either a BibliotheksausweisPlus (a library card with a payment function), a standard CopyCard, or the UHH CopyCard for staff. You can obtain a CopyCard or BibliotheksausweisPlus at the Hamburg State and University Library (Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Hamburg) at Von-Melle-Park 3.

Caddys

Do you study at the library regularly? You don't want to transport your own books, papers, etc. that you use in the library from home to the library and back every day? Then borrow a lockable book trolley at the loan desk!

Terms of use

  • The loan period is 4 weeks. Extensions are possible - as long as there are no reservations.
  • In addition to personal materials, documents and folders, you may also store your own or borrowed media in the caddy. The shelf mark of books should be visible from the outside. It is not permitted to place food, drink, and valuables in the caddy.
  • The caddy should not block escape routes within the library. Overnight the caddy has to be left in the loan desk. 
  • At the end of the loan period, the caddy has to be cleared and the key returned to the loan desk. In case of key loss, 15 € will be charged.
  • The library is authorized to carry out checks in the caddys. No liability will be accepted for items lost from the caddy. If the caddy is not used several times a week, the right of use ends.

Wi-Fi

The University provides members (students and staff) with access to Wi-Fi.
